This project is a transformation of a 1930’s house to a modern home by use of an extension to the side and rear to open the living spaces into the large garden. The unique details of the original house have been preserved and highlighted through the design.
The existing house has very little physical and visual connection to the garden which is a delightful and important aspect of the property. So it was important for us to emphasise and focus on the relationship between the interior and exterior spaces on the ground floor. When opened, the large sliding doors allows the kitchen to flow into the garden while still keeping the living area contained and cozy. The soft landscaped courtyard allows this living area to look back towards the main house and create a private, serene moment between the two.
The new master bedroom, on the first floor, takes advantage of the beautiful view provided by the wooded area behind the property as well as the morning sun.
The new layout of the main house with the addition of the extension allows this house to become a family home with plenty of space for a growing family and a lot of light throuhgout.
